27 years, one chair, and a very long memory
Rene has spent 27 years behind the chair, and she works out of Pizazz Hair and Nail Salon on Jackson Drive in San Carlos. You see her every visit. There is no rotating list of stylists and no starting over each time.
Her clients span generations. Grandmothers in for a standing set, their daughters in for highlights, and the grandkids in for a first real haircut. She still does the services a lot of salons quietly dropped, including perms and roller sets, and she does them properly.
Color is where she is happiest, whether that is a full correction on hair somebody else got wrong or a blend so soft you cannot find where it starts.

- Do I need an appointment?
- Rene works by appointment. The salon is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, and closed Sunday and Monday. Call or text her at 619-952-5690 and she will find you a time, including earlier or later than those hours if you need it. You are also welcome to walk in and say hello, and she will fit you in when she is free.
- Where is Rene located?
- Rene works out of Pizazz Hair and Nail Salon at 7676 Jackson Dr, Ste 5, San Diego, CA 92119, in the San Carlos neighborhood, just off Navajo Road near Mission Trails. There is a free lot in front of the salon.
- Does Rene still do perms?
- Yes. She does full perms, body waves, spiral perms, and root perms. A lot of salons stopped offering perms altogether. Rene never did, and she has been doing them for 27 years.
- Does she do roller sets and standing appointments?
- Yes. Roller sets, blowouts, and weekly or biweekly standing appointments are a regular part of her week.
- How much does a cut or color cost?
- There is no published price list, because the honest answer depends on your hair length, density, and condition. Rene quotes you before she starts, so you are never surprised at the end. Text her a photo of your hair and what you want and she will tell you.
- Can Rene fix color that another salon got wrong?
- Yes. Color correction is regular work for her, whether that is a box-dye job, banding, brassy tones, or highlights that came out wrong.
- Does she cover gray?
- Yes. She does full gray coverage and also blends gray for clients who want to grow it out softly instead of covering it completely.
- Does she cut men's and children's hair?
- Yes. Rene cuts men's hair and children's hair, including first haircuts.
- Does she do wedding and special occasion hair?
- Yes. She does updos, half-up styles, and formal styling for brides, bridal parties, graduations, and other events.
- How long has Rene been doing hair?

- Does she do waxing?
- Yes, eyebrow and lip waxing, usually while you are already in the chair.
